Norwegian is a language in the Germanic family and counts about 5 million native speakers. Its speakers are concentrated in the cold but beautiful country of Norway in western Scandinavia. As a result of Norway being tied to both Denmark and Sweden for long periods of its history there is an on-going debate about the Norwegian language. The issue has actually created two forms of written Norwegian, Bokmål and Nynorsk. However, the spoken language is mostly based on local dialects and thus there is no standard form of spoken Norwegian. As a relatively small language there are not necessarily abundant resources for learning Norwegian and those which do exists seem to lean towards teaching Bokmål.
