Danish is a Scandinavian language and thus belongs to the Germanic language family. Unlike German however, Danish only has two genders and only has a few remnants of the case system. The roughly 6 million native speakers mostly live in Denmark, although there are many Danish speakers just across the German border and also in Greenland. Anyone who learns Danish will also get a head start with Norwegian and Swedish, since these languages are often mutually intelligible.
